If You Stumble Make it Part of the Dance..

There is no getting away from it….we ALL stumble…that perfect person we admire from afar, yes, they stumble too….it’s just that some of us make it part of the dance and some of us run off red-faced …feeling foolish about it….

As you know I am teaching myself to crochet and started pretty ambitiously on Sophie’s Universe

Now, I went wrong pretty early in this process, not realising quite how important that stitch count was….I had a moment of despair and then decided to create my new dance and just carry on with it….it is my own learning curve and she still looks pretty sweet….

If you don’t crochet and you haven’t seen all the “perfect” Sophie pictures on Instagram she probably looks brilliant to you….so perfection my lovelies really is in the eye of the beholder….and to be fair, even if someone checks out your work and thinks it’s awful why would it matter…..if you love to do it and you love it and it brings YOU enjoyment, don’t run off red faced, just change the dance……

Honestly, Social Media….Instagram, Pinterest….all great for some inspiration, and I am loving knowing that I am going through the Sophie journey with hundreds of others all at the same time….our poor families having to live through the daily “Look what I have done?” and having to show the same enthusiasm with it day after day…

But, even the guys with perfect pictures and millions of followers will admit that most of their pictures are staged, they are dressed up like a photo shoot and you just see the perfect performance, not the dress rehearsals, not the bloopers…..

So please just take it for exactly what it is…..a catalogue, a finished product that only sometimes is the reality…..

Just keep on doing what you are doing, dance your own dance and travel your own journey….the perfect way is not always the only way…..veer off the marked path and find adventure….

Happy Monday!!!!!

oh, it’s here where you comment below how absolutely marvellous my crochet skills are already…..

I Will Make you Believe you are Lovely..

The first thing you need to do is change the word “believe” to “realise”…because believe it or not, you are already quite lovely….

Think of one of those days where everything falls into place….it’s as simple as being a good hair day….if somebody upsets you or is angry at you, you deal with it perfectly….you are active, you are doing all the things you love to do and all is right with the world….don’t put it down to luck, that actually was you! You did that, yes you!!

Grab a notebook and scribble down your Feel Good List…for example, on mine:

Fresh Flowers (remembering to throw them out when they get old)

Hot Bubble Baths

Clean and fragrant hair and tidy nails

Crochet (you might have noticed this is a new one)

Eating low fat and low sugar healthy food, no processed rubbish

Long Walks

Clean and decluttered house

Now I don’t do these every day…and you might not do yours every day…but the question is why not?  Take each one as a separate heading and ask yourself Why is this not a habit yet?

For me, my greatest time waster is my phone….checking every few minutes to see if I have missed anything on Facebook or Twitter, I am working on my Fear of Missing Out….I shall beat it!!

You might have read that on average it takes 21 days to form a habit…alas, it’s not as simple as that….apparently this idea came from Maxwell Maltz a 1950s surgeon who stated it takes AT LEAST 21 days for a patient to get used to, for example,  a new nose (I could do with one of those).  Eventually word got around that it was 21 days….further studies have shown that it can take up to 8 months so my advice would be for now to make sure you have a diary and pencil in a To Do list, I am great at this, not so great at crossing things off…So for me it is as simple as….do and cross everything off my list on a daily basis….it sounds easy and I am determined to make it this easy….

You might be able to make small, easy changes straight away e.g. I don’t take care of my skin because my dressing table/bathroom cabinet is a mess….I don’t need to tell you what to do here!

Or, I don’t drink enough water because I just don’t know how much I should drink….I use my Hdratem8, perfect and easy!

So, make those little changes now, create your to do lists and stick to them….be the loveliest you that you can be….

My last 24 hours has been more crochet, Georgia took control of the kitchen and made Brownies and we took delivery of a pizza mix from the Sweet Pea Pantry, hoping to create our own pizzas over the weekend.

I also finished The Girl on the Beach by Morton S Gray.

I became so engrossed in this story that I forgot I am reading a Kindle now and tried to turn the page, book style….

When Ellie Golden meets Harry Dixon, she can’t help but feel she recognises him from somewhere. But when she finally realises who he is, she can’t believe it – because the man she met on the beach all those years before wasn’t called Harry Dixon. And, what’s more, that man is dead.

Another great story… a recommended page turner for me…

We are hit here with torrential rain today so the roads will be flooded, not Ethels favourite driving conditions, in fact, she once broke when going through a particularly deep puddle…but go to work I must…dreaming of sunnier days and Spring time…

Believe AND realise you are lovely and enjoy your day!!!

Be Who You Are…

We are so influenced these days on what we should and shouldn’t like….what is in fashion….what isn’t…some things we like just because everyone else does….it’s pretty difficult to actually get to know ourselves….

I must be a confused soul because sometimes I would like the house to be full of bright colours, other times I like the idea of minimalist magnolia, clean and crisp….so deciding how to decorate can be confusing….

If you are the same I suggest giving it some time…..just collecting pictures of the things you love…what jumps out at you….then sharing the images with the rest of the household and seeing what you can all agree on….

I am the same with fashion…..torn between bohemian chic and yoga comfort….at the moment I am caving in to comfort….hoping this is my thing and it’s not just laziness rearing it’s ugly head…

Maybe a bit of both….I love both of these outfits….I must not go shopping for them until I am rid of the rest of the clothes I don’t wear!!

I am letting myself be open to all suggestions….stepping outside of my design comfort zone and welcoming in new ideas….trying to find ourselves can be a journey lasting a lifetime….I guess it’s all about enjoying the ride….

My last 24 hours has been all about making jewellery, growing Sophie crochet pattern, tea, cake and continuing with the decluttering task, today boxes of Volkswagen Beetle Diecast figures…I still have half a warehouse full of things, it has been an interesting task….

Helped by Molly Topshop who still believes I couldn’t see her in the box……

Timmy Twoshoes decided to sleep on the sofa……

So my suggestion for today…..not sure what you love….not sure about your own style….don’t worry, sometimes you just don’t fit into any style slot and you have to create your very own….you are you and that’s the way it will be…no worrying about the opinions of anyone else….be your own glorious self!

And on that note…..Georgia has Brownies baking in the oven…time to put the kettle on…

Wood Fires and Bowls of Violets..

“China tea, the scent of hyacinths, wood fires and bowls of violets – that is my mental picture of an agreeable February afternoon”  Constance Spry

Isn’t that far more enjoyable to conjure up than thermals and loads of rain….in fact here today we have blue skies but methinks it’s the calm before the storm…

I love violets, when we finally have a garden again I will be having a go at growing some…I don’t have the best track record for keeping plants alive…not naturally green fingered..

I already have wood fires and cups of tea mastered….hyacinths though? I have never had one…we appear to be out of season for buying them but I will keep my eyes open and grow one at the right time….

Crochet project update….I have grown Sophie but have gone wrong….I am supposed to have 12 petals and somehow I have 16…I think I know where I went wrong but I am for now carrying on regardless…I might just be able to turn this around when the time comes to turn her into a square…if it all goes wrong she will become a Sophie cushion and Sophie blanket will be restarted….it all makes for a steep learning curve but I am massively enjoying it and that’s what matters the most…I actually struggled doing the first magic ring…opting for a chain ring because I found that easier…

Don’t forget even the experts started out as beginners…so if there is something you want to learn just go for it….practice will always get you there….

Short and sweet today, much to do….

Happy February all!!!
